A Message on MLK Jr. Day to the McCormack Baron Community

January 18, 2021 | McCormack Baron Salazar

Dear McCormack Baron Community,

During this unsettling time when COVID-19, political turmoil, and our national shame of racism dominate our attention, it is more important than ever to create connections – and to advocate for and support all people, especially those who have been suppressed and denied access to the same opportunities as others in their communities.

At McCormack Baron, one of our core values is “social responsibility – investing our resources to strengthen communities.” This value drives us to see ourselves as participants in the communities in which we work.

Over the past several months, in the midst of the challenges of the pandemic, the McCormack Baron staff have partnered with Urban Strategies, Inc. and others to support our residents and their families in McCormack Baron communities across the country. These amazing employees have pivoted from their normal routines to address obstacles such as internet access for job seekers and students, food and medicine insecurity, and growing financial challenges.

To further empower residents during uncertain times, we hoisted tents for COVID-safer voter registration and census drives, to the point where we believe that more than 85% of eligible voters living in McCormack Baron communities are registered to vote.

The divisive political debate has only strengthened our commitment to build community. Indeed, as Dr. King said, “People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

We look forward to a new Federal Administration and a new chapter for this great country – one that listens to and respects all voices, that practices tolerance and inclusion, and removes roadblocks to advancement for all people.

Yes, we choose diverse community of all incomes, backgrounds and cultures.

Very truly yours,

The Board of McCormack Baron
