McCormack Baron Celebrates its Thirtieth Anniversary

March 1, 2003 | McCormack Baron Salazar

McCormack Baron, a St. Louis-based and nationally recognized affordable housing development and management firm will celebrate its thirtieth (30th) anniversary in March, 2003.

McCormack Baron & Associates and its management entity, McCormack Baron Management Services, have experienced a significant amount of change in terms of staff size, growth in both companies, and the nature and scope of the projects undertaken over the past 30 years.

McCormack Baron has completed ninety-one (91) projects with development costs in excess of $1.2 billion. It has developed more than 10,400 housing units and in excess of 1 million square feet of commercial space. A leader in urban redevelopment, McCormack Baron has been involved in the revitalization of such areas as Quality Hill in Kansas City, Crawford Square in Pittsburgh and Westminster Place and Murphy Park in St. Louis.

To coincide with the 30 year milestone, Chairman Richard D. Baron announced firm name changes effective with the New Year.

“I feel it is an appropriate time to change the name of the development company to “McCormack Baron Salazar”, and the management company to “McCormack Baron Ragan” to reflect the leadership and contribution that Tony Salazar and Alan Ragan have made to our continued success. There are no changes in the company leadership. I will remain as Chairman and CEO, Kevin McCormack as President of the McCormack Baron Salazar development entity, Tony Salazar will direct Western Division development out of our Los Angeles office, and Alan Ragan will continue as President of the management company. Under this leadership and with the strong presence in the western portion of the country, the firm will be in position to broaden its capabilities and expand into many more diverse markets.”

Tony Salazar, President of the firm’s Western Division has been with the company since 1985. After working in both Kansas City and St. Louis, Mr. Salazar relocated in 1992 to Los Angeles. The  Los Angeles office has become a major focus of both companies with a number of developments in process and others now completed in both southern and northern California. A major initiative is also underway in Phoenix, Arizona.

Alan Ragan joined the firm as President of the McCormack Baron real estate management services company in 1996. Mr. Ragan had a strong national management background prior to joining the firm. Under Mr. Ragan, the management portfolio now includes over 17,000 units in 18 states.
