CitySquare 162

New Orleans, LA

In 2011, HANO and the City of New Orleans received a $30.5 million Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) implementation grant to transform the Iberville Tremé neighborhood, including redeveloping the 821-unit Iberville public housing site and revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood with mixed-income and commercial developments. Serving as co-developers of the ambitious plan were McCormack Baron Salazar and HRI Properties.

CitySquare 162 is the first phase of a two-phase off-site component of the CNI plan.  Located on the site of a shuttered Winn-Dixie grocery store and directly adjacent to the new Bienville Basin, CitySquare 162 is a mixed-income, multifamily building with 76 apartments, community amenities, all new street infrastructure, including a new street, and a greenway connecting the site to the Lafitte Greenway.

CitySquare 162 preserves affordability for former Iberville residents while attracting new residents to this historic area. It works to reknit the Iberville/Tremé community by creating connections to other neighborhood investments and amenities, like the Lafitte Greenway and Bienville Basin, and reinvigorates a neglected site into a vibrant, attractive development.
