Memphis Steps Up Sustainability

April 9, 2014 | McCormack Baron Salazar

On April 9, 2014, McCormack Baron Salazar and its affiliate, Sunwheel Energy + Sustainability collaborated with the Memphis-Shelby (TN) Office of Sustainability to host “Pathways to Sustainability: Bringing Green Home.”

The event was a cornerstone in the citywide “Memphis Sustainability Month.” Sunwheel President William Carson and Operations Manager Lana Feix guided an audience of approximately 150 participants through “Six Steps to Green.” These steps are easy actions designed to help residents and public subsidizing agencies save money by significantly reducing the use of water, energy, materials and resources and improve personal health. If the lessons are applied, resident utility savings could be $100+/year/unit.

The enthusiastic, multi-generational audience was mostly composed of residents of McCormack Baron Salazar’s University Place and Legends Park HOPE VI properties as well as the Cleaborn Homes HOPE VI. Memphis Light and Gas Works also participated to help residents learn about and take advantage of additional savings and rebates available through local utility demand programs. Memphis HUD Field Office Director John Gemmill‎ attended the event as well as McCormack Baron Salazar Vice President Rosalyn Willis. These efforts are part of McCormack Baron Salazar’s commitment to the DOE/HUD Multifamily Better Buildings Challenge.
