Legacy Senior Building highlighted in new book

April 15, 2013 | McCormack Baron Salazar

A new book, Urban Alchemy: Restoring Joy in America’s Sorted-Out Cities by Dr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove of Columbia University, due out in June features McCormack Baron Salazar’s Legacy senior building.

The senior-focused community in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Jazz District promotes a healthy lifestyle and a stimulating community environment while allowing tenants a place to age gracefully.

Urban Alchemy looks at interventions for bringing new life to marginalized and dysfunctional sectors of American cities. Examining strands of disinvestment and neglect due to factors such as race, age, and class, this book reveals insights that point to practical paths for healing.  The Legacy is featured in the book as an excellent example of how responsive design can help heal cities.
