William M. Carson, LEED-AP, Vice President, Operations Strategy and Director of Sustainability

Mr. Carson focuses MBS’s efforts to develop Green and environmentally sustainable neighborhoods  and has championed USGBC LEED for Neighborhood Development applications including one of the largest LEED-ND pilot projects completed to-date (Renaissance Place, St. Louis, MO-Certified), and the second LEED-ND site in Tennessee (University Place, Memphis, TN-Certified). In 2009, he outlined MBS’s strategy for HUD’s Green Communities Grants, resulting in $56 million awards for new green construction. He also led a multi-company team through final Certification of the Midwest’s only LEED Platinum School (Crossroads College Prep, St. Louis, MO). Mr. Carson has taken an active business development role with Sunwheel Energy Partners, an MBS Company focused on solar energy for affordable housing, government and community facilities.  He has also led several projects focused on internal operations and strategy.

Before joining MBS, Mr. Carson was the incorporating Executive Director of the Vashon Education Compact—a partnership between the St. Louis Public Schools, MBS, and forty philanthropic & corporate entities. He began his career in a range of engineering, business development, and product management roles with Fortune 300 manufacturer Air Products & Chemicals, Inc.

Mr. Carson is a mechanical engineering graduate of Cornell University and holds master’s degrees in Engineering & Policy and Engineering Management from Washington University.

He serves several St. Louis nonprofit boards including Center of Creative Arts, College Summit, and Partnership for Downtown St. Louis, and is a member of USGBC-St. Louis Chapter and FOCUS St. Louis.
