Sue Lovell, Project Manager
Project Manager Sue Lovell serves as McCormack Baron Salazar's representative in Galveston and Houston, focusing on the Galveston mixed-income transformation project. Ms. Lovell coordinates all development efforts in the region, communicating with and involving stakeholders in the project, managing the political and public spheres, working with our non-profit partner, Urban Strategies, and serving as an on-the-ground local representative for McCormack Baron Salazar.
Ms. Lovell has extensive and diverse experience supporting community groups and populations that are most in need of services and representation. From her earliest community advocacy work to her most recent position as At-Large Houston City Council Member, Ms. Lovell works to advance community and economic development, livable communities and workforce development and she strives to elevate the concerns of the average worker and to promote and foster the capacity of the community groups that serve them. She represented the City of Houston on the Houston Galveston Area Council Board, a 13-county Gulf Coast Planning association, and on the Transportation Policy Council where she advocated for transportation and transit issues, including the development of alternative transportation options. As a council member, Ms. Lovell successfully sponsored and passed the first ordinance that created Protected Historic District in Houston. She also developed and implemented programs for increased abatement of graffiti and other “broken window” symptoms of disinvestment while reducing the cost of the programs.
As Director of the Mills MATCH (Mills Access to Training and Career Help) program, Ms. Lovell created an award-winning program in 9 months that provided training, transportation and childcare to people going to work for the first time or re-entering the workforce. She helped to obtain and then managed $5 million in grant funding and partnerships that supported the program, which included training from Houston Community College, transportation paid for by the Federal Transportation Administration and a childcare facility built with grant funding from the Economic Development Administration (the first time the EDA had awarded grant funding for the construction of a childcare facility). She then assisted with replications of the program nationwide. In addition, Ms. Lovell coordinated a Child Care Program for city employees after Hurricane Ike that permitted City of Houston workers to return to their jobs immediately to assist the citizens of the Houston area.
Ms. Lovell has many previous years of experience working in Galveston as an Economic Development/Local Government representative in Galveston, Harris and Brazoria counties for the State Comptroller’s office. She was also an owner of a small printing business and a courier for FedEx for 10 years. As a mom, Ms. Lovell also has extensive experience in coaching little league, organizing carnivals and carpools.
