Randy Rhoads, AIA, Vice President, Design and Construction

Mr. Rhoads has more than 25 years of experience in the design of residential, commercial / retail, educational, and governmental / institutional projects. As an MBS project architect, Mr. Rhoads’ main responsibility is to guide the physical plan from initial master plan conception through construction in order to guarantee a MBS solution: a high-functioning, high-quality, well-designed, safe, connected community. In order to fulfill this vision, Mr. Rhoads manages, coordinates, and critiques the work of outside architects and planners, civil and structural engineers, and environmental and geotechnical consultants. He is also responsible for procuring professional services and general contractors, evaluating cost estimates, value engineering, supervising document development, observing construction, and coordinating meetings with neighborhood and tenant associations.

Mr. Rhoads was the lead architect for 6 North in St. Louis, MO, the first multi-family, mixed-income building in the United States to incorporate universal design features into every unit, accommodating tenants of all abilities and income groups with attractive, loft-style apartments. He was the lead project architect for Tremont Pointe in Cleveland, OH, which was one of the first affordable housing developments in the U.S. to be awarded the Green Communities Criteria Certification, a green rating system co-developed by the US Green Building Council and Enterprise Community Partners for exemplary performance in sustainable, affordable residential design. He also led the architecture team for University Place Homes in Memphis, TN, which achieved LEED for Homes Certification in 2009 and which is the only development in Tennessee that is certified LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND). He is currently leading the design work on Legends Park West in Memphis, TN, which was awarded funding in 2009 under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s competitive ARRA 2009 Green Communities Program.

Prior to joining the company in 2002, Mr. Rhoads held lead design and project management positions at a number of San Diego and St. Louis architecture and development firms. Mr. Rhoads is a member of The Congress for the New Urbanism. Mr. Rhoads holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University and is a Registered Architect in the State of California.
