Carrie Van Syckel, Vice President, Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group
Ms. Van Syckel is a part of McCormack Baron Salazar’s leadership team through the company’s partnership with Goldman Sachs’ Urban Investment Group.
Ms. Van Syckel is a Vice President in the Urban Investment Group (UIG) at Goldman Sachs. Headquartered in New York City, UIG is an investing and lending vehicle within Goldman Sachs. Established in 2001, the Urban Investment Group deploys the firm's capital by making investments and loans that benefit underserved communities. Through its comprehensive community development platform, UIG is a catalyst in the revitalization of distressed urban neighborhoods. UIG has committed more than $1.2 billion, facilitating the creation and preservation of approximately 9,000 housing units — 75% of which are affordable to low, moderate and middle-income families — as well as over 600,000 sq. ft. of community facility space and approximately 900,000 sq. ft. of commercial and retail space.
Ms. Van Syckel’s primary responsibility is the oversight of UIG’s New Markets Tax Credit business. Since joining UIG in early 2004, Ms. Van Syckel has also focused on development projects in the New York City Metropolitan Area, with particular focus on transit oriented development, public/private partnerships and mixed-income developments.
Prior to joining UIG, Ms. Van Syckel spent five years as an Investment Banker at Goldman Sachs. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Ms. Van Syckel worked in the Investment Banking Division of Banc of America Securities L.L.C.
Ms. Van Syckel serves on the Board of McCormack Baron Salazar, a national affordable housing developer and Urban Strategies, a not-for-profit focused on redeveloping urban communities. Ms. Van Syckel is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Housing Conference and an advisory board member for DBL Equity Fund, a double bottom line venture capital fund.
Ms. Van Syckel received a B.S.E. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Van Syckel lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children.
